Trials and Tribulations

Well today was filled with trials and tribulations.  We prepared to leave Sedona bright and early so not to arrive in Newport Beach, CA too late in the day.  Traffic in Cali is the worst!  The day started with April having a heck of time backing the BAT up to Suni.  Not sure what the problem was... maybe she just needed more sleep!  When we stopped to get gas in Salome Arizona we planned to switch drivers which got us both out of the truck at the same time.  Zoe was so excited she jumped up on the door and locked us out with her and Calcite in.  It was 111 degrees out and we had no way to get into the truck.  We have a secret code, but neither of us know it and both sets of keys and cell phones are in the truck with the hot dogs.  A tries to coax Zoe back onto the door hoping she will unlock and Peg runs around asking everyone in sight if they have a way to break in.  A nice woman offers a hanger and another guy comes over so we borrow his phone to call AAA.  While A is on hold with them, Peg gets Zoe to unlock the doors!  We jump in and start the A/C with a deep exhale.  We both know the secret code now.

We then start to pull out of the gas station and all of a sudden the trailer brakes lock up.  We get out to try to figure out what the problem is and we discover that the safety brake cord has gotten caught on the bottom of the hitch and when the turn was made it pulled the cord out.  We put it back in and were able to get back on the road. Whew already a very long day.

When we finally get to the Newport Dunes we have to back into a space that is barely big enough for Suni with a building on the other side of the road.  There are several people sitting around watching as we try to manipulate it into the space with enough room on both sides to pull out the slides.  We are getting too much help from the peanut gallery, but we were able to get it done.  We are now settled in and destressed, but it took a while.  A will be spending the next few days with her parents while Peg lies on the beach so there won't be any news until we head up the cost on Thursday.
