We arrived in Issaquah looking forward to a great visit with Suzanne, April's friend from high school. We haven't seen each other in 30 years, but you would never know it. We are having a great time catching up and seeing the sights of Seattle. Suzanne is a great tour guide... we went to Pike's Market, Beecher's cheese shop and saw the very first Starbuck's with a line around the block. We took a ferry to Bainbridge island and really feel like we have seen Seattle. Unfortunately our fun was interrupted...
While having dinner at Suzanne's house, Peg was checking on our laundry and was going to love on one of Suzanne's dogs. Michael and Josie had been sequestered behind a gate because they didn't get along with Calcite and Zoe. When she went to pet Michael, Josie was startled and barked the alarm and Michael grabbed a hold of Peg's wrist. When he let go there was a lot of blood and we thought he had gotten her radial artery... we quickly tied a tourniquet and rushed to the emergency room. Once there we realized the wounds were deep and would need stitches, but not life threatening. She received a tetanus shot, antibiotics and lots of stitches and steri-strips. The next day her hand was very sore and swollen, which was to be expected. But by Monday morning she was showing severe signs of infection... a large hot red swatch moving its way towards her elbow. We went back to the emergency room where everyone coming into the room said... "Oh My". They admitted her to the hospital and started her on IV antibiotics. The doctor wouldn't let her eat anything until she was seen by the hand surgeon. They were all worried because she had no range of motion in her wrist or fingers. The hand surgeon decided to wait until some of the swelling subsided to see if she would get her range of motion back. They ended up giving her four doses each of three different IV antibiotics and putting her arm in a bunny-sling so her hand was permanently in a princess wave. She stayed overnight and was finally showing signs of improving by the late afternoon the next day. A PT gave her some hand exercises and the doctor said if she continued to improve she could come home. He finally let her go at 8 pm. Thankfully the hospital was fabulous! She is doing better and better every day. The stitches are supposed to come out on Saturday, but we will see.
